55" Reclaimed American Chestnut Hand Hewn Mantel

Dimensions:

7" x 8" x 55"

Each of our reclaimed barn beam mantels carries a unique story, salvaged from historic barns across Connecticut. These beams date back as early as the 1700s up to the Tobacco barn rebuilding era of the 1940s, preserving the craftsmanship and character of generations past. Crafted from a variety of wood species, including American Chestnut, White and Red Oak, Chess-Oak, Hemlock, Douglas Fir, and White Pine, each mantel showcases its own distinct grain, patina, and texture. Some beams retain their original rough-sawn marks, while others display the hand-hewn artistry of early builders. No two mantels are alike, making every piece a one-of-a-kind tribute to Connecticut’s rich architectural heritage.

Our finished mantels are available for purchase online, but we also have an extended collection at our appointment-only studio in Morris, CT, where you can explore additional options in person. For those looking to select a beam in its raw form, we have full-length, reclaimed barn beams fresh from deconstruction, stored in our warehouse and wood yards, ready to be transformed into mantels and more.

Terms and Disclaimers

Reclaimed Wood Disclaimer

At Reworx, we take pride in crafting unique pieces from reclaimed wood, celebrating the natural character and history of these materials. However, it’s important to understand the inherent features of reclaimed wood, which contribute to its charm and authenticity. By purchasing a product made by Reworx, you acknowledge and accept the following characteristics: Natural Imperfections: Reclaimed wood may feature knots, cracks, nail holes, saw marks, and other imperfections that reflect its past use. These elements are part of the material’s story and are intentionally preserved to enhance the piece's character. Color and Texture Variations: Each piece of reclaimed wood is unique, and variations in color, grain, and texture are to be expected. These differences make your piece one of a kind. Wear and Weathering: Reclaimed wood often shows signs of weathering, such as patina, fading, or slight warping, which are natural outcomes of its age and exposure. These features are not defects but rather a testament to the material’s history. Dimensional Irregularities: Reclaimed wood may not have the uniformity of new, milled lumber. Slight variations in dimensions or surface levels may occur due to the wood’s previous life. Environmental Responsiveness: Wood is a natural material that can expand, contract, or shift slightly with changes in temperature and humidity. While we take steps to stabilize the wood, some movement over time is normal. Sustainable Origins: All reclaimed wood used in our products is responsibly sourced from dismantled structures and salvaged materials. By choosing reclaimed wood, you’re helping to reduce waste and promote sustainability.
